Take note: “I Don’t Care” was written pre-Ramones in 1974 during Joey’s brief tenure as lead singer for the NYC glam rock band Stryper, back when he was known as Jeff Starship. Onstage Joey would often introduce songs as being “a real tearjerker for all you suicidals out there.” This one works especially well on that front with lyrics like “I don’t care about this world” and “I don’t care about that girl.” That’s it. This track is genuinely beautiful and wistful. The twist here? The object of Joey’s affection is “quite insane” yet he doesn’t care! A huge Beatles fan, Joey hereby spoofs the title of “You’re Gonna Lose that Girl” by composing what could actually be its very grisly sequel. One appears as a bonus track on their album ¡Adios Amigos! with C.J. Two different studio versions were recorded. The Ramones also performed it on and off until their final show in August 1996 at which C.J. The track was first aired before Phil Taylor and Würzel left the band. Critic Andy Boot, reviewing the album in Kerrang (27 February 1991) described the song as "the icing on a very fine, if somewhat heavy, cake." Joey Ramone said of the track: "It was the ultimate honor - like John Lennon writing a song for you". The bands were long-standing admirers of each other's work. " R.A.M.O.N.E.S." is a song first recorded by the British rock band Motörhead on their 1991 album 1916 as a tribute to their friends and contemporaries, the Ramones.
